Our History

Homegrown & Employee-Owned

Starting with a Cable TV System

1955

Founded by James Klungness and Charles Henry with the construction of a cable TV system in Iron Mountain, MI. Together they built and operated one of the largest terrestrial microwave systems in the U.S.

CCI Systems Formally Organized

1964

Klungness and Henry grew the company to a 10-man construction crew. By 1964 they formally organized and CCI became official. They also founded Klungness Electronic Supply (KES) which is still a part of CCI today, furnishing all types of hardware and equipment for broadband systems.

Incorporating the Business to Better Serve Clients

1981

CCI Systems, Inc. was incorporated in 1981 as Cable Constructors, Inc. A board of directors was created and expansion included over 39 cable systems, five broadcasters, and 50 radio stations. The cable TV holdings served more than 175,000 subscribers in 25 locations covering multiple states.

CCI Systems Expands into New Industries

1982 – 2012

CCI Systems acquires Econ Electric and Astrea to better serve clients throughout the USA.

CCI Officially Becomes an ESOP

1985

CCI officially becomes an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan).

Astrea is Formed

2007

Astrea is formed after purchasing cable systems from Northern Lake Cable TV in Wisconsin. Astrea provided high-speed internet, TV, and phone for towns in rural Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. 

Building the Brand of CCI

2008

CCI Systems, Inc. formally changes the name, moving away from Cable Constructors Inc. and shortening the name to CCI Systems. While the name changed the board of directors remained the same and CCI continues to serve their existing and new clients. 

Econ Electric Takes On New Ownership

2012

Econ Electric (acquired in 2002) is sold after CCI expanded and strengthened both companies. Doing the right thing for each company, subsidy, and business partner is part of our core values.

Guide Star is Created

2021

Guide Star is created within CCI Systems to deliver world-class service-based security and technology solutions. Also in 2021, CCI goes global and expands our workforce with the addition of CCI Private Limited.

NSG is Divested

2023

NSG Division of CCI Systems is divested creating a strong market base for all companies involved. Also in 2023, Teck Solutions is acquired to strengthen Guide Star and position them to better serve our customer base.

Astrea is Divested

2024

Astrea Division of CCI Systems is divested creating a strong market base for all companies involved.

TSS is Acquired & Executive Leadership Transition

2025

Total Site Solutions is acquired creating an stronger market base for all companies involved.

In addition, John Jamar retires as CEO, and Troy Knuckles is appointed as Chief Executive Officer.

Our team of professionals are trained and provided with the necessary information, guidelines, and tools to ensure the safety of our job sites. Our employees receive on-the-job training to ensure compliance with all safety practices and everything is reviewed and updated by our full-time safety manager. Our Field Management Teams are responsible for conducting daily toolbox meetings to ensure that our crews are following all necessary safety measures, including proper signage and workwear, as well as following all industry and federal regulations set forth by OSHA, DOT, our clients, and the communities in which we operate.
